About

Hi, I’m Lou.

I’m a Sydney-based photographer specialising in documentary and editorial photography, with a concentration on social commentary and humanitarian themes. Currently Senior photographer within Creative Studio at the University of Sydney, I balance my time between full-time work and freelance projects.

My work at the University piques my curiosity in subject areas from nanoscience, astrophysics and engineering to philosophy and medicine. I consider myself very fortunate to document the research of such a broad range of brilliant minds.

My passion for photography has taken me to Timor-Leste, Fiji, Vanuatu, Nusa Tenggara Timur and to remote parts of Australia, and my love for humanitarian issues has seen me travel to Italy, France, England, Croatia, the US, Egypt, Morocco, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand, as well as living in Spain for seven years. I also speak fluent Spanish, intermediate Italian, and basic Russian and French.

I have an Advanced Diploma of Professional Photography, photojournalism major and a BA with a history major. I received the Photography Studies College Graduation Award for Excellence in Photojournalism in 2010. In 2011, I was an intern photojournalist for The Age. It was here that my love for photojournalism and documentary photography was cemented.

As well as working as the Curator and Installer for the Head On Photo Festival in 2012–13, I was a photographer for the Australian Red Cross for many years. I augmented this experience by collaborating with other NGOs such as the Nusa Tenggara Association, working to alleviate poverty in rural areas.

I have exhibited work in Australia and New Zealand. My current creative project is abstracted landscapes, which stem from my love of our natural environment and passion for action on climate change. You can view these here.

That’s me in a snapshot but look through my work and let my pictures tell you more.
